Since my endurance has never been awesome, I decided to start my running career with this 10-week run/walk program found on the Runner’s World website. I kept a pace of 6 mph during the running segments and 3.5 mph during the walking segments. Confession though, it took me 16 weeks to complete this 10-week program due to getting sick twice during flu season and trying to train my baby girl to sleep through the night. She’s doing awesome btw.
I completed the program six weeks ago and I am still running 3 miles/day, 3x/week. I’ve attempted to follow this program a few times in the past but allowed myself to quit at the first sign of discouragement, blaming my leg for my failure. I am so happy to have finally completed it successfully. My leg has adjusted amazingly to the demands and stress of running without any significant additional swelling. Admittedly, the ability to run consistently gives a huge boost to the self-confidence.
Have you ever allowed your lymphedema to be an excuse to quit or not pursue a goal?
What would you attempt to do if lymphedema wasn’t a factor?
