Do you want to know what I am most self-conscious about? It’s not my swollen leg. It’s my swollen leg with a stocking on it. I wear full-length running tights (and clothes) to cover my stocking. I want so badly to wear cooler clothing like running skirts but I feel too self-conscious to show my stocking. One of my goals in pursuing running is to get over this.
I always wear a stocking while running even though it gets really uncomfortable and hot sometimes. My stocking goes from hip to toe and has a hip attachment with a strap that goes around my waist. Not the prettiest or most comfortable item of clothing but it manages my swelling pretty well. For running attire I purchased a pricey pair of CW-X running tights, which adds another layer of compression and helps the circulation in my leg. Although expensive, I think these tights are worth every penny because they help manage my swelling and keep me from getting sore.
It’s getting really warm outside. Today was 101° but it seems too early in the year for Phoenix to be over 100 degrees. I’m already trying to think of what clothing I could wear that’s cooler but covers my stocking at the same time. The shortest I’ve gone so far in pants is ankle/capri length. Perhaps I’ll become brave this summer and wear knee length skirts… maybe.
For those who have to wear compression stockings, do you feel the same?
