With Jordan’s urging, I am attempting to resume what I love doing – running. Although my running has been sporadic and unpredictable since having Olivia, I have been setting small goals for myself leading up to a project that I will share with you in my next post. Before that however, I would like to share a quick recap of two races that have encouraged me to start my next project.
Phoenix Marathon’s 10k
Jordan and I participated in the Phoenix Marathon’s 10K at the end of February. Registration to this race was Jordan’s Christmas present to me, which was the perfect gift to get me back on my running feet. Jordan registered himself as well, and together we followed a beginner’s 10k training plan. This turned out to be the best way to ease my tired body back into running. The beginner plan provided discipline and focus without being too strenuous.
I had participated in the Phoenix Marathon’s Half Marathon last year, and I am happy to report that my experience running the 10k was much more positive than running the Half last year – and no, it’s not because it was a shorter distance. The reason: I was there to simply enjoy the race. My post-baby pace was significantly slower than my pre-baby pace, but I honestly didn’t care. I loved just being among other runners again. I loved being outside and feeling the energy of the race. As I ran (or slowly jogged) I imagined what the next year would bring and what my goals would be.
