I am slowly getting back into the Christmas spirit and festivities with each passing year. I have always loved the Christmas season for its reminder of what is truly important in life, although about ten years ago I fell out of love with all the decorations and the giving and receiving of gifts. Is there anything better than walking hand-in-hand with your little person? It melts my heart whenever her little hand wraps around my pinkie.
I had someone leave me a comment recently asking about how I got my Flexitouch. I wrote a little about my experience here, but I’ll go ahead and share it again.
Before I got my Flexitouch, I would perform MLD and wrap my leg very rarely. I’m almost ashamed to say that it might’ve been once or twice a year. My main form of lymphedema maintenance before the Flexitouch was simply elevating my leg as much as possible at work and at home, and always wearing my compression stockings. I worked as a paralegal so my days were not really spent on my feet, and my exercise was mainly walking. Not to mention the washing and rolling of the bandages. [Read more…]
I feel like I need to give you all an update. Actually I want to give you an update because I very much appreciate your concern and advice concerning my last post. Thank you for caring.
I decided not to run in the 12k’s of Christmas this weekend. I’m pretty bummed about it actually. I wanted to see how I would do in a longer distance race, and I wanted to run with my two sisters and niece who are also registered. But, I realized that it was critically necessary for me to take a longer break from running. This entire week I have made sure to spend as much time as possible on the Flexitouch (3 to 4 hours a day) and to get to bed as soon as possible at night. As a result the swelling in my leg has been significantly reduced and I think I lost four pounds of fluid this week. I weighed myself five days ago and then again today. Seriously, four pounds! I also noticed that the skin around my thigh has loosened and no longer feels like it will burst from all the fluid tension.
